Between the months of June and November hurricanes and tropical storms are very common. Hurricanes and tropical storms are formed when several different weather conditions occur simultaneously. A hurricane is a tropical cyclone with winds exceeding 74 mph, originating in the tropical regions of the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, or the Gulf of Mexico. A tropical storm is a lesser form of a hurricane.
EasyLiving completes an emergency plan as required by the state of Florida for all home health companies (and various healthcare entities). If you’d like more information on our plan, just ask!
Clients and families need to understand the seriousness of facing a storm, especially for the elderly, ill or disabled individuals. We take disaster planning very seriously, and encourage families and clients to do so as well. Our at home caregivers can assist in purchasing supplies and making sure the home is stocked with needed items.

Additionally, every individual should have a plan for emergency evacuation and should discuss realistic options in planning. Clients who may need assistance evacuating should also register with the county emergency management services (see below for phone numbers). Counties offer special needs shelters, but clients should use these as a backup plan and consider other options first. See Pinellas County’s Special Needs information for more details.
