The National Alliance for Caregivers has conducted a repeated study of family caregivers over several years.  In the most recent study completed in 2009, they found more caregivers reported helping their senior care recipient with tasks such as transferring (getting in and out of bed and chairs), housekeeping and meal preparation.  There was also an increase in caregivers reporting they need help or information, specifically on: keeping their loved one safe at home, finding easy activities to do with their care recipient, and choosing a home care agency or care facility.

Caregivers also responded that they had increased their use of services such as senior transportation, respite care and home care sitters.  Many of the caregivers also worked and shared that they had to make accommodations such as changing schedules or taking time off and needed help balancing their duties.

In honor of April being Stress Awareness Month, EasyLiving is devoting our attention to family caregivers and the tools and resources that can assist them with the stress and concerns mentioned above.  As long time advocates of elders and their families, we know the diverse challenges that illness and aging can bring, as well as the difference good support and senior care can provide.

We offer a variety of articles in our blog section, from information on senior nutrition to the different types of senior home care providers in Florida and Pinellas County and how to determine if your loved one may need some additional help or support.  You may want to review some of our past articles with tips for caregivers, including:
